This dive site is appropriately named, as it’s home to a thriving diversity of aquatic life which you can view in its natural habitat.
The Exumas Land and Sea Park boasts an incredible spectrum of fish and coral species, and O’Brien’s Cay is one of the lesser-known islets within the marine reserve.
The remote cay is home to a natural wonder known as the Aquarium, and it’s easy to access as part of a yacht charter vacation around the Exumas.
Snorkeling in this dive site really does feel like you’re inside a tropical fish tank, with kaleidoscopic shoals of fish floating past everywhere you look. Many of the Sargent Major fish will even swim right up to you!
There are some interesting and unique coral and sponges to be found here, so take a deeper dive to see the coral garden up close
As well as smaller fish, there are also marine creatures such as eagle rays, green turtles and octopi inhabiting these waters.
You don’t need scuba gear to enjoy the sights of the Aquarium, as it’s shallow enough that snorkeling gear will suffice. However, there are some interesting and unique coral and sponges to be found here as well, so take a deeper dive to see the coral garden up close.
Remember that fishing and feeding the fish is not permitted within the confines of the Exumas Land and Sea Park.
After seeing the sights of the Aquarium, you should check out the nearby plane wreck. The submerged aircraft is just a short tender journey away, and it provides a fascinating look at the rusted remains of a completely submerged plane wreck with its nose embedded in the sandy seafloor.
