German Flag, Komodo

Along the southern coast of Komodo, upwelling creates a nutrient rich environment and, from September to January, high densities of plankton attract many large filter-feeding manta rays to an area known as German Flag. As there is often a current here, drift diving is recommended and water-goers can spot huge malabar grouper, potato cod, napoleon wrasse, and schools of surgeon fishes and bohar snappers hiding in the many rocks and boulders.
