Hinchinbrook Island

Situated five kilometres off the Queensland coast near Cardwell, Hinchinbrook is the largest national park island of the Great Barrier Reef. Uninhabited apart from one environmental resort at Cape Richard, Hinchinbrook is home to the mangrove everglades, some of the most varied and richest mangroves in the whole of Australia, and an important breeding site for many animals. Activities include rainforest hikes on the Thorshorne Trail, bird spotting, relaxing on the many beaches and discovering the island’s rich aboriginal history. The skyline is dominated by Mount Bowen, which towers over the rainforest wilderness.
