Guide to Capri

The kind of old-world glamour that makes you forget the world outside

With the scent of lemon groves in the air, spectacular scenery at every turn, and the kind of old-world glamour that makes you forget the world outside, Capri has been a favourite of the discerning traveller since Roman times.

This beautiful slab of limestone jutting out from the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea can be found in Italy’s Bay of Naples. This Mediterranean island is synonymous with refined hedonism, having been made famous by the glitterati that graced its shores in the 1950s. Today it holds this same elegance atmosphere with pride. Despite Capri’s popularity with those on a Mediterranean yacht charter vacation, its rugged green scenery, quiet coves, and gentle climate ensure it doesn’t lose any of its charm.

To avoid the tourists and summer day-trippers in the towns, Capri is at its best out of season. In May you’ll be treated to carpets of wildflowers in spring bloom whilst September through to early October offer quiet beaches, balmy nights, and waters still enough to swim in. There are two sides to Capri, and its more remote, rustic character can be explored through a network of footpaths lined with grand villas, overgrown vegetable plots, sun-bleached, peeling stucco, and banks of brilliantly coloured bougainvillea.

Medieval Capri town is almost entirely inaccessible by car, and every bit as picturesque as you would expect it to be. At the heart of it lies the Piazzetta, a square complete with idyllic church and bell tower filled with cafes and tables and chairs spilling out from the bars and restaurants. Narrow lanes wind off from the square and if you find yourself wondering along the passeggiata via Tragara to the Belvedere di Tragara you’ll enjoy full-on views of the Faraglioni - three jagged limestone stacks that soar from the sea off the south-eastern coast.

An established superyacht hotspot, Capri boasts all of the charms which make this area in the Bay of Naples such a desirable Italian destination for yacht rentals. Whether you are travelling with friends or family, you can start planning your next luxury vacation by taking a look at the entire fleet of superyachts available for Amalfi Coast yacht charters.
