Located in Hanko Marina on the southwest tip of Finland, Makasiini restaurant was opened in May 1999 in an old beach house that dates back to the late 19th Century.
Typically using locally sourced produce including oysters, truffles and venison, along with their own dedicated bakery, the restaurant offers an exquisite menu championing traditional Scandinavian fare with an haute cuisine twist, paired with a good selection of fine wines and bubbles. The head chef also uses a traditional wood smoker to cook the salmon and there is a dedicated pastry chef turning out heavenly desserts throughout the year.
The restaurant is a hugely popular choice for locals and wealthy Finns who flock here on their holidays during the busy summer months.
The menu is seasonal, so changing all the time, with an array of vegan, fish and meat options catering to all tastes. A typical 3-course meal duirng the summer months could include a starter of pan-seared cod with a cauliflower crumb in a beurre blanc sauce and paired with a fragrant Austrian Reisling, followed by black angus fillet with spring greens, truffle mash and a red wine jus paired with a rich rioja, and finished off with home made ice cream topped with salted caramel served with summer fruits.
The staff are attentive and professional at all times, yet Makasiini is not your usual stuffy fine dining haunt, instead locals are warm and welcoming and the atmosphere is altogether very agreeable, further enhanced by the glorious views over the archipelago.
The restaurant is also an events venue hosting a busy schedule of live music throughout the peak summer months.
