The Jardin Botanique et Exotique Val Rahmeh was established in Menton in 1905 by the English Lord Percy Radcliffe, and named after his wife. Developed and expanded over the years, the garden opened to the public in 1967.
The subtropical microclimate enjoyed in this corner of the French Riviera allowed the cultivation of a range of tropical plant species, and the property is now managed by the National Museum of Natural History.
As well as being a public botanic garden, it is an important research centre conserving endangered species.
The garden is planted with around 1500 species, brought here from as far afield as Africa, South America, China and Australia, as well as elsewhere in the Mediterranean, and offers an inviting oasis of colour and calm just outside Menton, an ideal excursion for those visiting on a South of France yacht charter.

The pride of the Val Rahmeh garden is the magnificent sophora toromiro tree, a flowering tree endemic to Easter Island, where it is now extinct, while other natural marvels include banana, kiwi and papaya trees, 400-year-old olive trees, passion flowers, bamboo and ginger plants.
At the center of the garden is a carefully designed pond, which provides a home for aquatic plants such as water lilies, lotus and papyrus.
