With an idyllic countryside setting, divine seafood dishes, and an abundance of rustic charm, this former mill is easily one of the best restaurants in Montenegro.
Translated as ‘the Catovic’s Mills’, Ćatovića Mlini has been in the same family for more than 200 years. No longer used for making flour, however, the mill has been transformed by the Catovics into a traditional Montenegrin restaurant with a stellar reputation.
Located in the tiny village of Morinj, Montenegro, near the Bay of Kotor, the konoba (tavern) is a must-visit when on a luxury yacht charter in the East Mediterranean. Nowhere else in the region can match its delicious specialities nor its magical bucolic surrounds.
Geese and peacocks wander around the luscious, mountain-backed grounds, and the soothing sound of babbling streams creates a tranquil atmosphere – dining here feels worlds apart from the sun-kissed coast, despite it being only five minutes away.
A safe haven from the rush of life where the time goes by slower and softer than ever
Such proximity to the sea makes Ćatovića Mlini easy for superyacht-goers to get to. They can take a tender ashore to Morinj Beach, whether anchored off the nearby coast or docked in Porto Montenegro (approximately 10km away).
Seated on the shaded terrace, start with homemade prosciutto and cheese in oil before moving onto standout dishes such as yellow risotto with saffron and shrimp, white fish baked in salt, or corn crusted octopus. Fish is certainly the focus here, but save room for dessert – the Boka cake is to die for.
It’s also worth giving the traditional Njegusi specialities a go. All ingredients are sourced from the area, so expect a farm to fork dining experience at its best, and there are some high-quality local wines on the menu too.
