Ibiza Magna berth costs twice as much as rates in Port de Saint-Tropez

By Rebecca Bradbury   25 June 2018

The fees to berth a superyacht in Ibiza Magna are almost double the fees needed to berth in Port de Saint-Tropez, research by Engel & Völkers Yachting has revealed.

Engel & Völkers Yachting publish its ranking of Europe’s top ten most expensive marinas every year. The survey analyses the basic fees for a 55 metre superyacht to berth for one day in marinas across the continent during the upcoming high season and ranks the entries accordingly.

The latest data, for the 2018 season, once again puts Spain’s Ibiza Magna at the top of the table with a daily fee of €4,000. Compare this to Porto de Saint-Tropez which, costing €2,105 per day, is nearly half the price.

This may come as a surprise given the South of France’s reputation as the world's premier yachting hub and as one of the most popular places to undertake a Mediterranean yacht charter. Yet, Porto de Saint-Tropez is the only French marina to make it into the top ten and is only in fifth place overall.

What is also interesting to note is back in 2011 Ibiza Magna ranked in fourth place in the survey and, at €1,643, was only close to €300 more expensive than Port de Saint-Tropez. This means, in six years, prices at the Spanish marina have nearly doubled.

In fact, the newly collated data shows the mooring fee at the Ibiza port has increased by 32 percent in just one year alone. The growth does follow an overall trend for rising berthing fees in Europe, but the very high costs associated with this specific marina reflects how Ibiza’s popularity is still on the up.

Rated in second, third and fourth place respectively are three Italian marinas: Marina di Portofino (€2,751), Marina Grande in Capri (€2,750) and Marina di Porto Cervo in Sardinia (€2,564).

The latest data once again puts Spain’s Ibiza Magna at the top of the table with a daily fee of €4,000.

The 2018 fee for Marina di Portofino is 20 percent higher than the cost recorded in the 2017 survey. What’s more, data from 2011 reveals how this marina was once the cheapest of this Italian trio, but has now overtaken the other two to become the priciest in Italy and second most expensive in Europe.

Behind Port de Saint-Tropez in sixth place is Puerto José Banús in Marbella (€2,068). The remaining marina in the western Mediterranean to make the top 10 is Monaco’s Port Hercule (€1,095), which is rated in ninth place.

Filling the seventh, eighth and 10th positions respectively are Limassol Marina in Cyprus (€1,533), ACI Marina Split in Croatia (€) and Netsel Marmaris Marina in Turkey (€1,054).  This shows how marinas in the eastern Mediterranean remain under €2,000.

The higher rates associated with marinas in the western Mediterranean reflects how for many yacht owners and charter clients, this is the most popular cruising destination in Europe.
