Charter Yacht LAMIMA Nears Completion

By Editorial Team   9 September 2014

Next month will see one of the most unique superyachts on the global charter fleet, the 65m/214ft Indonesian two-masted phinisi LAMIMA, reach completion in Southeast Asia.

Born from the drawing board of esteemed yacht designer Marcelo Penna with a vision to create the world’s largest wooden sailing yacht, the build of LAMIMA has been progressing on a beach on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi for almost three years. The journey of her build is a remarkable one and includes the hands of group of skilled traditional boat builders of Ara, Sulawesi who together meticulously constructed the yacht using only traditional methods.

The UK-based company Marine Results have been overseeing the build of LAMIMA which is currently in the final stages of rigging at the Italthai Marine in Bangkok.  Ben Wood who is leading the operation commented: “Marine Results is handling the management of virtually every aspect from the deck up. We have been responsible for all the mast hardware design and we contracted Fairlie Yachts for their invaluable input into the traditional design. We are now managing the onsite spar and mast hardware assembly and ultimately the rigging and stepping.”

Described as a ‘nautical masterpiece’, sailing yacht LAMIMA successfully combines the charm of traditional Indonesian culture, hospitality and seafaring with the selection of luxury amenities and high-spec interior expected of a modern charter yacht. Asian influences have been used throughout her living areas, paired with elegant, contemporary furnishings to offer absolute comfort to guests. She offers accommodation for up to 14 guests in seven beautifully finished staterooms.

Aside from her design and fantastic amenities, it is LAMIMA’s crew that really set her apart from the rest. Amongst her team of 19 there are expert fishermen, a Padi dive instructor to go alongside side her certified dive centre as well as experienced pijit masseuses and yoga teachers and even a tour guide. Every effort has been made to provide a Southeast Asia yacht charter experience like no other on board this very special yacht, something that is sure to be well-received once she finished.
