The 29m/94ft sailing yacht WINDFALL from Southern Wind won the maxi class 2 division at Les Voiles de Saint Barth for the second year in a row on Saturday 14 April, following four challenging days of racing in the beautiful waters of St Barts.
Going into the final day of racing, WINDFALL was tied on points with her rival, the 22m/72ft sailing yacht ARAGON from Yachting Developments. There was a sense of déjà vu for the two yachts as they found themselves in exactly the same situation as during last year’s edition.
History was to repeat itself again, however, as the victory went once more to the Southern Wind build. ARAGON had to make do with second place ahead of the 20m/67ft charter yacht ‘Simple Harmony’.
With 15 to 30 knots of breeze and big seas, the weather conditions were perfect for this year’s Les Voiles de Saint Barth. The 53 yachts, divided into seven classes, engaged in some incredible battles and WINDFALL was not the only yacht to claim her win on the last day of competition.
An exciting duel took place in the maxi 1 class between PROTEUS and SORCHA. Neck-to-neck for most of the final course, it was PROTEUS who took home the win for the third consecutive year. She also won the Richard Mile Maxi Cup for notching up the quickest time.

Other winners in St Barts included Mutuel-PTO in the CSA 3 class, and VENTARRON and CONVICTION in the CSA 2 and CSA 1 classes respectively. The awards were presented in a ceremony on Saturday night, which was followed by a fireworks display.
Organisers are already looking ahead to Les Voiles de Saint Barth 2019. The dates have been moved ahead by one week (14 to 20 April), so the regatta will take place during the Caribbean low season in a ploy to attract more sailors due to increased marina availability and lower rates across the island.
