The iconic 88m/289ft superyacht ‘Maltese Falcon’ and a top selection of other sailing yachts from the global charter market are en route to Sardinia for the Perini Navi Cup 2018.
The attending fleet, made up exclusively of yachts built by Perini Navi, will make its way to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo in time for 19 September, when three days of racing around the idyllic La Maddalena archipelago gets underway.
Racing will be split into two classes: the cruiser-racer class reserved for the more serious competitors and the Corinthian Spirit class, a more relaxed division for yachts without spinnakers.
One competitor to watch out for in the cruiser-racer class is Maltese Falcon. Renowned for her innovative DynaRig technology, she won two consecutive editions in 2009 and 2011 but, at the past two meets, she has been unable to replicate her winning form.
In 2015, she was beaten to the winning spot by the 56m/184ft charter yacht ROSEHEARTY which will unfortunately not be making a re-appearance. Yet, other strong performers will ensure plenty of thrilling action at the upcoming regatta.
Among these are the 60m/197ft charter yacht SEAHAWK and the 53m/174ft charter yacht ‘Jasali II’, which, at the previous edition in 2015, were placed third and fourth respectively.
Another notable yacht making its return is the 64m/210ft charter yacht ‘Spirit of the C’s’. Likewise, regatta regular charter yacht PERSEUS^3 will be in attendance, although sadly not racing.
Not all of the fleet are seasoned Perini Navi Cup racers, however. The privately owned 60m/197ft sailing yacht SEVEN, which met with much acclaim following her launch last year, will be making her regatta debut and 2016’s 70m/230ft private sailing yacht SYBARIS will be watching from the sidelines.

Away from the racing, there is a full social programme sure to keep owners and guests entertained each evening. Events include a welcome sundowner, a yacht hop and a gala dinner.
The event also draws attention to the exquisite cruising grounds of Sardinia and showcases the scenery and first-class facilities charterers can expect when undertaking a Porto Cervo yacht charter.
