Charter yachts triumph at St Barths Bucket 2018

By Rebecca Bradbury   19 March 2018

Three charter yachts, the 34m/116ft charter yacht SOJANA, the 32m/104ft charter yacht FARFALLA and 35m/116ft charter yacht WHISPER, all put in impressive performances over the weekend at the 2018 St Barths Bucket to claim overall wins in their respective classes.

This year’s St Barths Bucket, which was the 31st edition of the long-standing regatta, got underway on 16th March, drawing a 23-strong fleet of magnificent sailing yachts to the idyllic island of St Barths for three days of thrilling pursuit racing.

Although charter yachts topped the leader boards in three out of the five classes, it was the faultless 34m/112ft sailing yacht NILAYA from Baltic Yachts which, after winning all three races in her class, secured the bucket’s overall title.

It was, however, SOJANA, a charter yacht built by Green Marine, which took home the overall win in Class B. Easily the most consistent competitor in her class, she won two out of the three races.

After crossing the finish line in second place on the first day of racing, FARFALLA from Southern Wind notched up two consecutive wins to top the leader board in Class C.

She managed to hold off the advances of the 34m/112ft charter yacht SPIIP which, following a strong start, failed to replicate last year’s winning form and had to make do with a second place finish in the class.

The unwavering WHISPER from Holland Jachtbouw reigned victorious in Class D, winning three out of three races, thus, taking home the overall class title.

She was up against the 56m/184ft charter yacht ROSEHEARTY, which was looking to win the class for the third year in a row. However, a disappointing performance meant the Perini Navi build had to settle for fourth place.

Another yacht unable to repeat last year’s winning ways was Alloy Yachts’ 52m/170ft charter yacht Q in Class E. She had to make do with second place, with the 43m/141ft Vitters charter yacht KOO hot on her heels in third place.
