Yas Marina is having its busiest year on record, with more yachts sailing in than ever before. Over 200 yachts have turned up for the 2013 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix according to Cedric Le Rest, general manager of Yas Marina, this is up from 125 yachts in 2009 when the inaugural race was first held.
Over the last 5 years Yas Marina, managed by Camper & Nicholsons Marinas, has established itself as a must-do event for the SuperyachtSet as it is not just the Formula One cars that are providing the glamour on Yas Island this weekend. This year it was announced that the Amber Lounge would be hosted in the Marina, along with many after race activities including large outdoor concerts headlined by JayZ and Depeche Mode, as well and spectaular nightly laser shows.
According to Mr Berger, a local yacht charter broker, the event is so popular because “There’s only two races on the Formula One calendar where you can watch the race from a yacht. One is Monaco and one is Abu Dhabi”. The newly refurbished Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi is rivalling Monte Carlo by offering first-class vantage points for forty-three superyachts berths with a track view. For the other non hard-core F1 fans without track views the reason they attend is for the atmosphere and after race parties.
This year a number of large high profile superyachts have been spotted trackside, including the 85m ( 278ft) Yacht 'Moonlight II' and 60m (196ft) luxury charter yacht 'Cloud 9', and the 78m Australian built sisterships Rabdan and Smeralda.
If you fancy joining the electrifying atmosphere at next years Abu Dhabi Grand Prix there are numerous charter yachts for private parties or for corporate yacht charter, please contact your yacht charter broker.
