Superyacht charters welcome in Costa Rica following landmark ruling

By Mairead Finlay   1 April 2021

Excellent news for guests interested in luxury yacht charters in Costa Rica: a landmark reform ruled today in favor of allowing charter vessels over 24m (79ft)  to remain in the country for up to one year. Combined with world-class yachting facilities already in place, this means that chartering a superyacht in this stunning part of Central America (which spans more than 800 miles of beautiful coastline) will now be easier than ever before.

Marine reform expected to be in operation by September 2021

The marine reform was voted by the Costa Rica Legislative Assembly 47-0 in favor, making this a landslide victory for the charter industry. Following this result, the wheels are now in motion to get the reform signed into law. It is anticipated that the reform will be enforced by September 2021.

Speaking about this reform, Jeff Duchesneau of the Costa Rica Marina Association who campaigned for these charter changes, said:

"The new reform law coupled with the country's tourism prowess and five full-service marinas on the Pacific Coast make Costa Rica the ideal new hotspot for luxury chartering."
