VIDEO: Experience the thrill of a regatta in Antigua

By Katia Damborsky   18 April 2019

As the 2019 Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta prepares for the first day of official races tomorrow, take a look at all the highlights from last year’s event in the blissful island setting of Antigua.

Tropical sunshine, clear skies and ideal sailing conditions make the Caribbean one of the most desirable locations for seasoned sailors looking to show off their skills on the water.

Combine this with friendly competition, a spirit of camaraderie and exciting shoreside socials, and it’s all too easy to see why the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is a mainstay in the region’s regatta circuit.

This year, a record of  50 classic yachts are expected to take to the waters to battle it out between 17-23 April, with the first official races kicking off on Friday 19.

A variety of circuits promise a different challenge daily, and six classes will divide the yachts based on their performance and technical abilities.

Kenny Combs, founder of the event, has said: “Everyone here is on the same level, whether you come in flip-flops or private jet. We’re here for the sailing.”

Away from the water, the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta hosts plenty of fun-filled activities. Participants can enjoy gig races, cream teas an open mic music night and a Concours d’Elegance.

There will also be awards ceremonies and DJ sets, ensuring a lively experience for all involved.
