Work Begins on New Yacht Marina in Turkey’s Gulf of Saros

By Rebecca Bradbury   8 June 2017

The Arab Tourism Organization (ATO) has begun work on a new yacht marina in the Gulf of Saros, a tourist destination on the Aegean Sea in the northwestern Edirne province of Turkey.

The new project emerged following a meeting between ATO President Dr Banadar Bin Fahad al Fuhaid and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, who recommended Fuhaid invest in tourism opportunities in Edirne.

Edirne Mayor Günay Özdemir stated the ATO had identified locations for investment and reached a positive conclusion about Enez, a touristic town situated next to Lake Dalyan and 10 miles by sea from Alexandroupoli in Greece.

As the Greek city has its own airport, the nearby town of Edez is an attractive location for investment in the tourist industry. ATO say the marina will make an ideal place to secure yachts in the winter months and to set off for other countries during the summer.

Due to its proximity to Istanbul, the new marina is expected to be popular among Arabs, who currently keep their yachts in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It will also make a good starting base for private yacht charters taking place in the region.

The Edirne province is rich in historic and natural attractions and, unbeknown to most, boasts an idyllic coastline along the Aegean Sea and Saros Gulf with a variety of beaches to enjoy.

Once the capital of the Ottoman Empire, the city of Edirne features imperial building stock, a wonderful culinary heritage, and a lingering and highly treasured sense of civic grandeur. The city also hosts the world-famous Kirkpinar oil-wrestling festival.

Plus, the Gulf of Saros is primed for investment after it was declared a ‘Tourism Protection and Development Area’ in 2006 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
