Shaped by limestone mountains and surrounding coral reef, this lagoon on Misool Island is the perfect place to escape with your significant other while chartering in Raja Ampat.
This lagoon is known locally as the ‘Puluau Karawapop’ and is located in the South Misool District near the Marine Reserve. It is characterized by its distinctive heart shape, which is best appreciated from above: locals have created a nearby hike with 600 wooden steps up to a viewpoint that overlooks the crystal clear lagoon and its surrounding jungle.
Working your way back down the hill, cool off by jumping into the inviting waters from the small pier that extends into it. Thanks to its clear, shallow waters, it is perfect for all swimming abilities in your luxury charter party. You will also be able to clearly see the stingless jellyfish who typically swarm along the bottom of the lagoon, as well as the vibrant coral reefs that fringe its heart-shaped waters.
Karawapop Lake is the ideal place to try out the snorkeling and diving equipment onboard your motor or sailing yacht, as well as paddle boards and kayaks thanks to its calm, warm water. For an extra-romantic experience, why not try exploring in a two-man kayak or paddle board?
As the lake’s name suggests, you won’t find a more romantic spot in the Raja Ampat. Indeed, given that the region is still relatively unknown to tourists, this spot on Misool Island is a quieter and more secluded corner of South East Asia– only adding to the intimacy that is naturally instilled in this destination.
