Living up to its name, Michelin-starred L’Oasis calls upscale diners in the South of France to feast on fanciful cuisine among a magical terrace adorned with exotic plants and palms.
The restaurant may be 10 minutes along the coast from Cannes in the peaceful seaside resort of Mandelieu-la-Napoule but the neo-Gothic building in which it is housed boasts a private jetty, making it an ideal getaway for those on a French Riviera yacht charter.
L’Oasis originated back in 1954 when Louis Outhier set out to create a prestigious dining institution, quickly notching up three Michelin stars in what would become a 34-year reign at the venue.
Striving to re-create Outhier’s culinary excellence, Stéphane Raimboult and his two brothers, fellow chef Antoine and pâtissier François, opened the restaurant’s doors again in 1991. Now, executive chef Alexandre Martin continues to dish up gastronomic jewels.
Offering a creative and contemporary take on Provençal fare, the seasonal menus celebrate the local produce and flavours of the region. Dishes make use of the estate oil, honey and wine, and are always ravishingly presented, ensuring a feast for all the senses.
Caught-that-day fish features heavily on the menu alongside the likes of lobster and braised veal. But, unusually for France, there is also a fine selection for vegetarians, such as ratatouille decorated with flowers and exceptional truffle dishes, when in season.
What’s more, head sommelier Pascal Paulze looks after 450 references. Mains can also be concluded with a fine cheese board or a mouth-watering desert. And as well as the enchanting garden terrace, there is also a formal dining room with large bay windows.
