With a quarter of a mile of dazzling white sand lapped by bluer-than-blue ocean, it’s no surprise that Trunk Bay in the US Virgin Islands regularly ranks among the world’s top 10 beaches.
Standing out along the pristine northeast coast of St John, Trunk Bay is the showpiece of the US Virgin Islands National Park that covers two-thirds of the island.
A beach this beautiful never fails to go unnoticed and it does attract a fair number of visitors. The beach’s best snorkeling, however, is around the small cay that lies 30 yards off the west of the shore (left as you face the water). As the cay provides better protection from the waves, there’s a richer selection of sea life here, with arrow crabs and juvenile spotted drum making regular appearances among the pristine coral.
