Occupying a commanding position overlooking the sea on St Kitts, Brimstone Hill Fortress is one of the best preserved historical forts in the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Begun in 1690, Brimstone Hill Fortress became one of the most important British fortifications in the Caribbean, seeing action against French naval forces through the 18th and early 19th centuries before being abandoned by the military in 1853.
The fortress has now been restored and the site, which forms part of a National Park, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
