Keen to step on board the only Feadship at this year’s Mediterranean Yacht Show, the team at YachtCharterFleeet spent a considerable amount of time learning more about the impressive rebuild carried out on the 46m/150ft motor yacht ANCALLIA.
Originally built in 1984, a comprehensive rebuild of ANCALLIA was conducted between 2011-2014 which saw an international collaboration preserve the Feadship pedigree whilst adding subtle touches to keep the modern charterer satisfied.
Maintaining the hull whilst fitting completely new engineering systems to go along with a fresh new interior and exterior design, superyacht ANCALLIA is no doubt among the most impressively built superyachts available for charter.
Don’t just take our word for it- at the World Superyacht Awards last year she won a coveted neptune trophy in the category for 'Best Refit', a feat she proudly celebrates with a photo of the iconic award taking pride of place in the bridge.
Whilst from a technical perspective the build process is infinitely intriguing, from the point of view of charter guests, the work has provided the rare opportunity to experience an historic and quintessential Feadship yacht with all of the amenities of more modern vessels.
Bringing in the estimable British team at Colefax & Fowler to design the interior, the attention to detail on motor yacht ANCALLIA is nothing short of incredible.
As soon as guests step through to the main salon, they’ll invariably find themselves drawn to the intricate woodwork; aware of the careful attention to the flooring; impressed by the seamless unity of the decoration. Whilst these may seem like fine points, they combine to produce an inviting and classically inspired aesthetic.
More broadly speaking, this communal space features a collection of comfortable sofas, a bookshelf full of appropriate travel books, and is finished in a neutral colour scheme accented by brief flashes of color.
Another fact worth noting is the table which is tucked behind the staircase on starboard side. As an alternative to the private study annexing the master cabin, this fixture provides guests the chance to conduct any necessary business whilst remaining in close proximity to their friends and family- yet another marvellous touch from the designers.
What makes ANCALLIA a truly special superyacht is how even her functional features achieve a captivating beauty
Separated by a mirrored unit, the formal dining continues the tastefully opulent theme established by the main salon.
Nicely spacious, entire parties are able to dine here without giving up an inch of their personal space, and the crew were clearly attentive to tablescaping when presenting the yacht at this year’s show.
Fringed by a dark mahogany, the table itself brightens the space with light and patterned wood deserving as much attention as the artwork placed a short distance away.
With generously sized windows placed at either end of the table, guests are also provided access to outstanding views and plenty of natural light when choosing to have their lunches served here during the day.
Upon first entering the master cabin found at the fore of the main deck, the team were pleasantly surprised by the introduction of a green and white color palette- wholly enlivening, this scheme is immediately refreshing by day, and effortlessly comforting by night.
Noticing the impression it had made on the team, the stewardess leading the tour chuckled to herself before remaking how she enjoys seeing the excited reactions she gets each time she introduces the cabin to guests.
As might be expected of a yacht of ANCALLIA’s stature, his and hers bathrooms are located further forward, and have been decorated with some of the most exceptional marblework the team saw all week at the show.
Annexing the master cabin, the private study exudes a similarly relaxing ambience, making the task of working whilst on a private yacht charter far less daunting.
The additional six guest cabins found on the lower deck are comprised of a VIP, two doubles, a single, and three pullmans.
Each provided with their own distinct personality, the colors used and artwork installed are nicely specific whilst maintaining the expert balance of classic and modern design.
One of the doubles, for instance, offsets the light paneling with a bright red soft throw, an addition which sets the stateroom apart from the others.
Capable of sleeping up to 14 whilst away on charter, this makes ANCALLIA an exceptional choice for those who require a nanny or a supernumerary present while cruising.
Attentive to charter guests’ fondness for observing the captain at work, the bridge of superyacht ANCALLIA includes comfortable sofa seating situated high enough to get a good look out on the water whilst she’s underway.
As well as proudly wearing a plaque which outlines her Feadship history, the bridge is also the perfect place to draw up an itinerary and discuss plans for which destinations to visit next.
Indeed, where better to chart the course of a vacation than at the helm of such an outstanding yacht?
Faithful to the traditions of Feadship whilst integrating tastefully modern features, superyacht ANCALLIA has to be chartered to be believed
Moving from the bridge through to the skylounge, guests are treated to a nicely ambient communal spot nicely finished with bamboo panelling and an abundance of sofa seating.
With materials selected and brought over from London by her discerning owner, this area forms a fluid transition between the interior and exterior.
Throughout the day it’s easy to imagine how relaxing with a few drinks in the skylounge would be something of an unparalleled luxury which nicely complements the other options found elsewhere on board.
With the sundeck observable through the large glass doors, it was no surprise that the team was keen to get out in the Greek air and find out what ANCALLIA offers around her exterior.
As might be expected, the exterior design of superyacht ANCALLIA reflects in every respect the timelessness of her interior design.
The immaculate gloss of the handrails and alfresco dining table, for example, reveals just how much thought has gone into maintaining the unwavering prestige associated with Feadship.
Thoughtfully arranged, the Jacuzzi has been situated amidships on the sundeck to allow for panoramic views to be absorbed along with the bubbles.
Likewise, a generous amount of seating has been installed on the aft deck with optional shading for those looking to get out of the sun for a few moments.
Storing tenders on the foredeck and allowing guests to board them off the swim platform at the stern, it’s clear that ANCALLIA is as entertaining as she is classy.
Ultimately, ANCALLIA satisfies all the impulses which lead charterers to vacationing on a Feadship yacht.
From her flowing and instantly recognisable lines, to her classically accented interior and superbly-appointed exterior, she more than lives up to the iconic name proudly announced in her bridge.
But she goes one step further, taking advantage of the many recent technologies and entertainment options which make cruising and spending time on board a yacht so special.
In this sense, it’s impossible not to consider her as one of the most unique and subsequently desirable superyachts available for charter, and her presence at this year’s show was in every respect a gift.
