After listening to the need to superyacht owners, the brand new DeepFlight Dragon is set to be landmark addition to the submersible market – designed to make operating from a yacht or shore as easy, safe and exciting as possible.

In the weeks leading up to the 25th edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, Dragon’s performance has been exceeding expectations so safe and intuitive that almost anyone can sit in the pilot’s seat without the need for lengthy training. With fans of DeepFlight personal submarines already including Sir Richard Branson, Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz and venture capitalist Tom Perkins, the sixth generation of the vessel is set to break new ground in the industry.

The two-person personal submarine offers the in-built safety of positivity buoyancy, ensuring it can automatically float to the ocean’s surface. It also boasts the status of the most compact and lightweight submarine currently on the market at 120 metres and 1800 kg (air weight), catering to the limited space of a superyacht’s tender garage. The Dragon is suited both to storage on a tender garage or on deck, and can be launched easily as a tender. For shore-based operations, the submarine can launch from both beaches and boat ramps for heading back to a superyacht.

Continuing on from the ease of navigation and access and Dragon, DeepFlight have also worked to ensure the submersible needs minimal maintenance, which can be effortlessly taken care of by crew members.

The DeepFlight team have also implemented state-of-the-art, bespoke technology within the all-electric Dragon. She is presently the only submarine in existence with sufficient power that it can rely solely on vertical thrust to dive, therefore eliminating the need for complex ballast systems to weigh/create weight on the submersible down and allow it to sink to depth.

One charge can cater for 6 hours of unadulterated fun diving to depths of up to 120 metres (400 ft), exploring the local marine life or seeing famous wrecks of yesteryear. In addition to her impressive battery management system, the Dragon features a DeepFlight Dive Manager, a proprietary system to monitor dive functions (including setting depth and other limits).

With DeepFlight Dragon, you can take the controls and explore under the waves

"The big leap forward with our newest model, the Dragon, is its ease of operation. For superyacht owners, there is no need for a specially trained pilot” commented Founder of DeepFlight, Graham Hawkes. He added, “You can take the controls and explore under the waves” akin to driving your very own “Ferrari.”

A game-changer in a growing industry, with vessels like the Dragon submarine, DeepFlight hope to “remove all of the barriers to owning and operating a personal submarine,” according to President Adam Wright. DeepFlight submersibles can already be found at marinas around the world.

DeepFlight will be presenting Dragon from 23 to 26 September at stand QR4.
