Bringing together scores of Turkish gulets and international sailors, the American Hospital Bodrum Cup returns in October 2018 for its 30th-anniversary edition.
Organised by ERA Bodrum Sailing Club, the Bodrum Cup will take place from 22 to 27 October out of Yalikavak Marina. A friendly racing meet, it aims to promote sailing among the captains and crews of Bodrum’s charter fleet and celebrate the end of Turkey’s cruising season.
After a race briefing on 22 October, a cocktail reception and opening cup concert will kick-start the social events before five days of racing commences. Each leg of the competition will take place in a different area, including Yalikavak, Leros (Greece), Kormen, Kisebuku and Bodrum.
Every evening ends with a different entertainment offering, highlighting the fun and relaxed ethos of the regatta, and on the final evening, a prize-giving ceremony will conclude proceedings.
The cup is one of the few in the world where yachts compete with their charter guests on board, making it ideal for inexperienced sailors wishing to undertake a regatta charter.
What’s more, before the cup underway, the fleet will have arrived from Istanbul after participating in the Bodrum Cup Istanbul Challenge. The long-distance event starts on 13 October and stops at a different destination every night until arriving in Bodrum on 22 October.
