Newport will once again play host to The Newport Jazz Festival in the summer of 2013.
The Festival was first established in 1954 with most of the early festivals broadcast on Voice Of America radio. It moved to New York in 1972 and split into a two site festival in 1981; one site remaining in New York while the other returned to Newport.
As of 2012 the festival has been sponsored by Natixis Global Asset Management. It is hosted in Newport at Fort Adams State Park, and is usually held in the same month as the Newport Folk Festival, its sister festival.
