Sydney Harbour. Australia
26 - 31 Dec 2020
Often described as the most gruelling off-shore racing event in the world, the 2020 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will be putting experienced sailors through their paces as they take on the 628-nautical mile course on December 26.
Setting course from Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day 2020, a fleet of over 150 yachts will be participating in the 76th edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
The race typically takes over 5 days to complete, with a challenging course that follows the east coast of Australia across the Tasman Sea to Tasmania, arriving in capital city Hobart in the days leading up to New Year's Eve.
The race is a highly-anticipated social event for the yachting community in Australia. Competitors enjoy the sense of camaraderie and gamesmanship, while spectators typically congregate on board yachts to watch the fleet set off from Sydney Harbour.
While the course is renowned for its picturesque scenery and good winds, there are certain portions that are notoriously challenging, such as the Bass Strait, which will test sailors' precision and accuracy.
The race finishes when the fleet turns into Storm Bay for the final stretch up the Derwent River and into the historic port city of Hobart, Tasmania's capital.
Onlookers and participants can expect a jovial and upbeat atmosphere at the start and end points of the race, with crowds gathering to cheer the yachts on plenty of hospitality events on the schedule to keep participants entertained.
