One of the most hotly-anticipated sailing meets on the calendar, the St Barths Bucket Regatta attracts some of the world’s best sailors and sailing yachts to the idyllic waters of the Caribbean.
Now entering its 33rd edition, the Bucket Regatta is one of St Barths’ most iconic events- rivalled only by the island’s legendary New Year’s Eve festivities.
A sterling fleet of sailing yacht are expected to assemble for the 2020 edition, which gets underway on March 22. Alongside the thrilling racing action, there will be a glitzy programme of exclusive shore-side festivities for participants to enjoy.
Racing spans three days, with yachts divided into six classes based on performance. This year will see the triumphant return of the ‘Corinthian Class’ for yachts without spinnakers, marking the third year that this class has been a fixture of the St Barths Bucket Regatta.
An invitation-only event, the St Barths Bucket Regatta is popular with professional sailors and amateur enthusiast alike. The blissful Caribbean backdrop is complemented by Trade Winds providing ideal sailing conditions, while the island’s laid-back lifestyle creates a convivial setting for social events.
While the regatta is highly prestigious, the spirit of camaraderie and sailing for the joy of it still prevails, and this attracts some of the most impressive superyachts in the world. Ranging from 30 metres up to 60 metres, the Bucket also attracts a strong contingent from the charter fleet.
As well as the main races, there will be a number of additional prizes for up for grabs, including the ‘Perini Navi Cup’, which is awarded to the finest participating Perini Navi sailing yacht.
As a yachting hub and renowned sailing community, St Barths places heavy focus on social events to enliven proceedings over the course of the four-day event.
Among them, participants can expect yacht hops, awards ceremonies as well as cocktail and canapé parties both on land and on deck. Saturday will see the ‘Bucket Bash' and final awards ceremony party, which is traditionally held at the five-star Eden Rock hotel.
