Guide to Forte dei Marmi

Forte dei Marmi is set between the Marinas of Ronci and Pietrasanta in the Versilia area and was one of the first resort towns tailored to luxury-seeking visitors on a Mediterranean crewed yacht charter. It was in the 1920’s that the Agnelli family (of Fiat fame) began to summer here - drawn to its beautiful setting - and before long a flurry of royals, silver screen stars and jet set travellers followed suit. It is the place where Giacomo Puccini lived and wrote his operas and today is home to a lake front open-air theatre that hosts Puccini's operas beneath the stars. A summer festival is also held there in his honour every year called Fondazione Festival Pucciniano.
