The president of the Antibes harbour has confirmed that the 2015 Antibes Yacht Show will not take place at a recent meeting of the harbour’s association. The Association de Soutien à l'Aménagement et aux activités du Port d'Antibes (ASAP) however, hope to hold a networking event for the yachting industry.
Originally scheduled for April of this year, it has been reported that the resources were not available to continue with the 9th edition of the event. The proposed networking event - ‘Antibes Celebrates Yachting – Antibes fête le yachting’, will aim to draw people to Antibes and is expected to be scheduled for 24 to 25 April. A 100sqm marquee is planned host seminars, with two further tents – one for crew recruitment and training and one for Captains, according to Petra Malloier, member of ASAP and ex head of sales for the Antibes Yacht Show.
The Worldwide Yachting Association (MYBA) has expressed its desire to support the event, should it take place, Fiona Maureso commented “We are encouraging yachts to attend and will support the event with the in-water side of things, as a mini pop-up show or open day over two days,” adding that Antibes is “a major hub and a very vibrant hub for yachting, despite the fact that the Antibes Yacht Show isn’t going ahead this year.”
