The organisers of the inaugural Phuket Yacht Show have announced that the event is postponed until later in the year, due to unforeseen circumstances.
The new charter yacht show was originally due to take place from 12 to 15 February in Phuket Yacht Haven Marina, currently undergoing development to become the biggest superyachts marina in Asia. The current conditions of the marina and conditions beyond the organiser's control have been indicated as the reasons behind the postponement. The Thai government have additionally shown support for a later show, to allow more superyachts cruising in the Mediterranean for winter to attend.
At the core of the decision is a desire to put on the best show possible for visitors, and promote Phuket as a leading yachting hub with international status. Andy Treadwell, managing director of the Phuket Yacht Show, commented that he hopes the event will be "a real catalyst for the development of the yachting industry" in Asia that could "give a serious boost to the industry worldwide."
Jean Phataraprasit, of Phuket Yacht Haven Marina, added "It's fundamental to the important investment we have made in this project that Phuket remains the superyacht hub for Asia, and we're excited that the marina at Yacht Haven with its new clubhouse, and the international-scale show that Andy's team is planning, will be at the forefront of development of the yachting industry here."
Alongside the Singapore Yacht Show (21 to 26 April), the Phuket Yacht Show hopes to increase the popularity of the region as a charter destination. YachtCharterFleet will bring you all the latest news on the event, as new dates for the show are anticipated to be announced shortly.
