Nobiskrug unveils more details on 80m superyacht ARTEFACT at MYS 2018

German shipyard Nobiskrug presented a scale model of its 80m hybrid superyacht ‘Project 760’ and revealed its name to be superyacht ARTEFACT at the Monaco Yacht Show 2018.

The latest project from Nobiskrug, ARTEFACT is expected to hit the water in 2019 and boasts exterior design from Gregory C Marshall and interior styling from Reymond Langton Design.

The yacht’s distinctive aesthetic, as shown in the model, reflects the owner’s persistence to achieve a list of special criteria that included environmental responsibility, technological innovation and guest comfort.

Impossible not to miss is the extensive and innovative use of glazing across the yacht. Seventy tons of glass has been used in total and she has the highest ratio of glass to LOA for any yacht in her size range.

Given that the shapes of some of the windows are yet to be seen on a superyacht, it will result in a unique profile, as well as ensure the very best views possible from the interior.

Nobiskrug’s managing director Holger Kahl said: “The composite superstructure and the extensive use of custom large and curved glass panels throughout is monumental, ensuring that the visual experience from the interior is uncompromised with minimal mullions to obstruct the panorama."

Another key concern was the quest for silent operation and maximum stability. As a result, the interior layout radically departs from conventions, with the master stateroom situated aft rather than in the bow and all guest entertainment areas located in low acceleration zones.

Eco-friendly features include the hybrid propulsion system, which is another first in yachting. It uses a DC bus and batteries along with azipods and variable-speed Caterpillar 3516 gensets that are Tier III compliant. The hybrid system reduces sound, vibration, fuel burn and emissions, plus mimics dynamic positioning.

Dynamic positioning can hold the yacht’s position without dropping anchor and this protects the sea floor. Plus, there is a system which enables the reuse of waste water as technical water and solar panels power the batteries.

Not much is known yet about the interior but the window shapes and sizes were said to be 'a springboard' for the general arrangement and decor.

Captain Aaron T Clark added: “ARTEFACT is a unique vessel that marries cutting-edge engineering and striking architectural design to embody a tribute to the nuances of human experience which are often overlooked or ignored.
