Video: Day 1 at the Singapore Yacht Show 2017

By Rebecca Bradbury   11 April 2017

Highlights of the opening day of the Singapore Yacht Show 2017 are revealed in an exclusive video clip, which perfectly showcases the Singapore event at its finest.

Kicking off last week on Thursday 6th April, the four-day show took place at the ONE°15 Marina in the island resort of Sentosa. Nearly 100 yachts were welcomed at the venue and the impressive fleet can be seen in a spectacular overhead shot.

Sure to catch your eye due to her sparkling paintjob is the 77m/253ft superyacht ‘Silver Fast’, while the 65m/213ft superyacht ‘Ambrosia III’ from Benetti stands out thanks to her sheer scale and the unique architecture of the Norman Foster-designed 41m/135ft superyacht ‘Ocean Emerald’ can be spotted too.

The clip then cuts to the official opening ceremony, which included a lion dance, musicians and a ribbon cutting ceremony, headed up by Andy Treadwell, CEO and founder of the Singapore Yacht Show, on the boardwalks of the marina.

Treadwell also gave a speech at an opening press conference. He said: “Singapore is the business and financial capital that’s right at the epicentre of this region and the owners of all these superyachts are businessmen, so they’re going to end up coming here and doing big business.

“So we see the future of the yachting industry and all the benefits this fantastic lifestyle brings with it, for everyone, as extremely bright.”

The footage also unveils the glitz and glamour of the Asia Boating Awards which, as usual, celebrated the success of brands, builders, marinas and clubs, companies and individuals in Asia and internationally over the past 12 months.

Organised by Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazine, the awards were presented in a lavish gala. Winner of the ‘Best Asian Boat Show’, the Singapore Yacht Show was a recipient itself, as was host venue ONE°15 Marina for ‘Best Asian Marina’.

Other notable winners included luxury phinisi ‘Dunia Baru’ for ‘Best Asia-based Charter Yacht’ and the ‘Best Yacht Design’ award went to Sunseeker for its 131 series, which includes the 40m/131ft charter yacht JACOZAMI.
