Cannes Yachting Festival 2021: Five great charter yachts to look out for

By Steve Mandaluff   17 August 2021

For the first time in two years the iconic locations of Port Canto and Vieux Port are set to sparkle again as the Cannes Yachting Festival returns to the French Riviera from September 7 to 12.

Cancelled in 2020 as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the leading players in the yachting world will be making up for lost time to showcase the newest additions to their fleet.

With an estimated 140 world debuts set to take place over the six days of the show there is sure to be a lot to see, including these five fabulous new superyacht models destined to make superb charter holiday options.

Azimut make a 'Grande' statement

Italian yard Azimut will, as ever, have a strong presence at Cannes giving world debuts to its Azimut 53, Azimut 68 and Magellano 66. The real head-turner though will be its 38m (125ft) Grande Trideck, the yard’s largest-ever yacht and first tri-deck.

The 299GT yacht ticks all the boxes when it comes to a potential charter yacht. Its mezzanine deck creates an additional raised aft deck in the stern to make the model a “three decks, plus one” and creates a unique sea view terrace primed for relaxing in the sun. This also frees up space for a 30-square meter (323 sq. ft) beach club with 2m (6.5ft) of headroom for long afternoons lazing by the water in style.

The light and airy interiors are equally impressive and are marked by having no formal dining area. This was as a result of a conscious decision by the yard to create a series of multi-purpose areas giving real flexibility on how to use social spaces.

The motor yacht can have a five or six-cabin layout and features a specially designed efficient hull with reduced fuel consumption.

Unveiled at the end of May, five hulls are already in construction, so it is surely only a matter of time before one of these beautiful motor yachts joins the charter market.

Benetti unveils luxury Oasis

As you might imagine, with such a strong pedigree in the superyacht industry, Benetti is once again very well represented at Cannes, giving debuts to its 37m (121ft) Motopanfilo and 29m (95ft) Delfino 95 amongst others.

When it comes to yachts for charter, its breathtaking Oasis 40m model will take some beating. Making her Cannes debut, the 40.8m (134ft) superyacht REBECA is the inaugural hull from the line and was delivered to her Owner last September, what is more, she is already available for charter.

Truly a yacht dedicated to alfresco living, REBECA features Benetti’s latest lifestyle feature, the Oasis Deck. This is a new take on the traditional beach club and features opening wings that extend the surface area of the deck and a pool integrated into the flush deck close to the sea and within the social area.

The 385GT yacht’s chic and minimalist interiors are equally as inviting as its vast outdoor spaces and accommodation is provided for ten guests across five cabins. Expect a range of around 4,000nm at a cruising speed of 12 knots.

With REBECA being nominated in four categories at this year's Boat International Design and Innovation Awards and an incredible 14 hulls already in the order book, expect to see more Oasis 40m joining REBECA in Benetti’s charter fleet soon.

Sanlorenzo take it to the 'ALMAX'

Sanlorenzo has been one of the busiest shipyards in recent years and its stunning 34.16m (112ft) charter yacht ALMAX will no doubt be the focus of much attention when she makes her Cannes debut next month.

The largest SX model so far, the 112 was delivered last year and is available to charter. With a strong family appeal, the crossover flybridge motor yacht merges inside and outside spaces with an open-plan interior that opens up to the outdoor deck space at every opportunity.

The centerpoint of the four-cabin yacht is undoubtedly the 90-square-meter (968 sq. ft) beach area with fold-down waterside balconies and an adjacent fitness area. Four Volvo IPS engines give a top speed of 23 knots and a range of 1,600nm at a cruising speed of 12 knots.

A further eight hulls of the SX112 are set to be delivered over the next 24 months, and we will wait to see how many join the inaugural hull ALMAX on the charter market. We do know that other models from the striking SX range are proving popular charter choices across the Mediterranean.

Sanlorenzo’s 36.92m (121ft) SL120A model will also be at Cannes. The yacht features an asymmetric design and a single deck matched on the opposite side with a widebody design. With a focus on maximum space and liveability and plenty of flexibility when it comes to the layout, this is another model we could see on the charter market very soon.

EPIC superyacht on show from Ferretti

Ferretti’s flagship yacht, the 30.48m (100ft) Ferretti Yachts 1000 superyacht EPIC, will take pride of place amongst the Italian yard’s models on show this year. The motor yacht, which was delivered in the spring, is another to already be available for charter and is not to missed if you want to experience beautiful Italian craftsmanship allied to incredible levels of space.

The motor yacht is Ferretti’s first 100% wide-body vessel, which means plenty of room for charter guests. Inside full height windows keep her interiors bright and airy, whilst leather-clad paneling and marble tops add a refined finish.

Her 40 square meter (430 sq. ft) stern is home to a beautiful waterside beach club, with direct access to the swim platform from the cockpit. Add in Ferretti’s largest flybridge to date, a treasure trove of dining and social areas and five beautiful cabins, including a main deck master suite, and this charter yacht truly is EPIC by name and nature.

Ferretti will have a number of models at the Cannes Yachting Festival, but when it comes to a luxury yacht for charter, then EPIC will take some beating.

Majesty of Gulf Craft ready for all to see

Due to make her debut at the canceled Dubai International Boat Show last year, UAE builder Gulf Craft’s Majesty 120 will finally make her public bow at Cannes.

The 37m (137ft) superyacht has a shallow draft of just 2m (6.5ft), which makes her the perfect choice for cruising the shallow shores of the Caribbean. Onboard she delivers luxury aplenty with a spacious sundeck, with a sheltered Jacuzzi and a cleverly designed hybrid beach club that acts as a multifunctional space that can also be used for tender storage.

The modern interiors have been designed by the Italian studio Cristiano Gatto, with the monotone shades emphasizing the volume and the long stretch of windows bringing in plenty of light.

The trideck superyacht accommodates 11 guests across five staterooms, which include a full-beam master cabin on the main deck forward. In a nod towards the environment, electrical power is used for almost everything on board, except the engines and generators.

Whilst ‘True Sense’, the first Majesty 120 model, isn’t currently for charter, there is already a second hull in build with the 290GT yacht looking every inch the perfect contender for charter.
